This facility provides something pleasant for a caller to listen to when they have been put on hold. A short piece of music selected as being the most appropriate to represent the company is commonly used although a number of companies incorporate a voice over message with the music for advertising purposes.
For "music on hold" to be incorporated on a system the following is required:
- A portable CD player
- A suitable CD with the music on it
- A performing rights licence
- A card fitted to the system central control unit
